I was talking to a dear friend today who would like to drink less, but seems to be afraid of what that would look like.
It is a terrifying prospect. A life without booze. Honestly, I know. You only have to read a few hundred posts back and you will see that that is how I took sooooo long to begin.
In the discussion with my friend I likened the fear of not drinking with the fear of the Gruffalo in the picture above. (If you have not read this book, go to YouTube and watch it! It is ONE OF THE BEST children’s books of all time.). It seemed to make sense to her, so I thought I would share it.
The mouse, tiny and powerless uses the light of the moon to make himself look huge and scary. Quite frankly, that is what the booze does. The shadow of giving up looks so much worse, so much more impossible to conquer and so awful…. Yet the reality is THE OPPOSITE. Like the sweet mouse, who in no way resembles his shadow, giving up alcohol in no way resembles what you IMAGINE it is like. Giving up alcohol is really one of life’s best kept secrets…. Life really does begin to open up like a flower blooming.
Important note. IF YOU DO NOT ENJOY IT (AFTER A DECENT TRY OF AT LEAST 100 DAYS) YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK TO DRINKING.
Love to you all
